As summer turns to fall in Toronto, temperatures drop and humidity changes. Spiders do not migrate indoors to escape the cold—they are highly freeze-tolerant. Instead, they enter basements for two primary reasons: **mating cycles** and **prey availability**.
Many Toronto neighborhoods (such as The Annex, High Park, East York, and Leslieville) feature historic homes built in the late 1800s to mid-1900s. These older homes have stone, block, or double-brick foundations that have settled over time, creating crawlspace cracks, weep holes, and dry wood rot that offer easy indoor access routes.
