# Spider Control York Region — Spider Squad ## Service Area Spider Squad serves York Region, including Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Aurora, Newmarket, King City, Stouffville, Woodbridge, Thornhill, Maple, and surrounding communities. ## Spider Pressure in York Region York Region is a rapidly growing suburban area north of Toronto with a mix of mature established communities and active new construction. Both environments produce distinct spider pressure patterns. **Thornhill and Markham (established suburbs):** Older residential areas with mature tree canopy and established landscaping. Consistent house spider and cellar spider activity. Properties backing onto Rouge River tributaries, Pomona Creek, and other watercourse corridors have elevated insect and spider pressure. **Vaughan and Woodbridge (mixed mature and new):** High activity in established Woodbridge neighborhoods. Vaughan's ongoing northwest expansion creates significant new construction wolf spider pressure. Humber River tributaries through Vaughan drive elevated mosquito pressure in adjacent residential areas. **Richmond Hill and Aurora:** The Oak Ridges Moraine boundary runs through the northern portions of these municipalities. Properties in and above the moraine — particularly Oak Ridges community in Richmond Hill and rural Aurora — have higher tick density than the south York suburban core. **Newmarket and East Gwillimbury:** Northern York communities adjacent to the Holland Marsh and Lake Simcoe watershed. High mosquito pressure near Holland Marsh drainage and marshland edges. East Gwillimbury's rural residential areas are among the higher tick-risk zones in York Region due to moraine forest adjacency. **King City and King Township:** Rural estate properties with significant agricultural adjacency. Higher overall pest pressure than suburban York. Tick treatment is appropriate for King City and rural King properties with wooded, brushy, or conservation-adjacent zones. **Stouffville:** Growing community near Whitchurch-Stouffville rural areas. Agricultural and rural-edge properties have above-average spider and mosquito pressure. ## Oak Ridges Moraine in York Region The Oak Ridges Moraine creates a distinct ecology through the northern half of York Region. The moraine forests support higher deer populations — the primary host for adult blacklegged ticks — and the forest/meadow edge habitat is ideal for tick establishment. York Region Public Health conducts tick surveillance and has confirmed blacklegged tick populations across the moraine corridor. Tick control is recommended for all York Region properties above the Moraine boundary: Oak Ridges, rural Richmond Hill, Aurora north of Highway 404, Newmarket near the forest edge, East Gwillimbury, and all of King Township. ## Services Available in York Region - Exterior spider perimeter treatment - Mosquito treatment (all areas; Holland Marsh-adjacent and watercourse properties particularly) - Tick treatment (Oak Ridges Moraine properties, King Township, East Gwillimbury) - Interior spot treatment - New construction treatment (Vaughan, Markham north, Stouffville developments) - Multi-unit and commercial properties ## Cities and Areas Served Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Aurora, Newmarket, King City, Stouffville, Woodbridge, Thornhill, Maple, Oak Ridges, Holland Landing, Sharon, Schomberg, Kettleby, Nobleton, Kleinburg, and surrounding York Region communities.
