Spider Control in Delhi
Delhi is the historic centre of Ontario's tobacco industry, with rich sandy loam soils that once grew the majority of Canada's tobacco crop and now support a mix of ginseng, vegetables, and transition crops. The productive soils and warm growing conditions sustain some of the highest insect densities in southwestern Ontario, which in turn supports significant spider populations in the agricultural fringe surrounding town.
Delhi's older residential areas near the downtown core have the housing characteristics typical of a historic market town: brick and frame homes on established lots with full basements, aging mortar, and foundation characteristics from multiple construction periods. The transition in surrounding agriculture from tobacco to ginseng and vegetables has not materially changed the spider migration pattern — fall harvest still drives concentrated movement toward residential structures.
