# Spider Control Niagara Region — Spider Squad ## Service Area Spider Squad serves the Niagara Region, including St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland, Thorold, Pelham, Fonthill, Grimsby, Lincoln, Beamsville, Port Colborne, Fort Erie, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and surrounding municipalities. ## Spider Pressure in Niagara Niagara Region has a combination of urban residential, agricultural, and natural area environments that drive above-average spider pressure for Ontario. **Escarpment and natural areas:** The Niagara Escarpment corridor runs through west Niagara into Hamilton. Properties bordering the escarpment, wooded ravines, and conservation areas have higher ground-dwelling spider populations (wolf spiders, funnel web spiders) and more significant fall pressure as outdoor spiders move toward warmth. **Agricultural areas:** Vineyards, orchards, and field crops in Lincoln, Pelham, and south Niagara create substantial insect populations that support high spider counts at adjacent residential properties. Orb weavers are particularly prominent in vine-adjacent environments. **Waterfront and Long Point adjacent:** Fort Erie and Port Colborne properties near the Lake Erie shoreline have dock spider pressure. Long Point Peninsula — one of Ontario's significant blacklegged tick zones — is in the broader Niagara/Haldimand-Norfolk area. **Urban Niagara Falls and St. Catharines:** Dense residential areas with mature trees and older housing stock have sustained house spider and cellar spider populations, particularly in partially finished basements with older foundation sealing. ## Seasonal Notes Spider season in Niagara follows standard southern Ontario patterns, but Niagara's milder temperatures (moderated by Lakes Ontario and Erie) mean: - Spring warming comes earlier than inland Ontario — spider activity activates by late March to early April - Fall activity extends later — October and sometimes early November remain active - Black widow sightings in Ontario are most concentrated in southern Ontario including the Niagara Peninsula — the species is rare but documented in this region (see the black widow Ontario page) Tick pressure in Niagara: Blacklegged tick (Lyme disease vector) populations are established in parts of Niagara, particularly properties adjacent to the Escarpment woodlands and Long Point wetlands. Tick control is relevant for Niagara properties with wooded or brushy zones. ## Services Available in Niagara - Exterior spider perimeter treatment - Mosquito treatment - Tick treatment - Interior basement and garage spot treatment (on request) - Web cleanout - Discreet service available ## Cities and Towns Served St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland, Thorold, Port Colborne, Fort Erie, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Grimsby, Beamsville, Lincoln, Jordan, Vineland, Pelham, Fonthill, Wainfleet, Stevensville, Crystal Beach, Ridgeway, and surrounding areas.
