## Service Area

Spider Squad serves the Kawarthas region, including Peterborough, Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Omemee, Lakefield, Norwood, Campbellford, and the lake communities along the Trent-Severn Waterway including Pigeon Lake, Chemong Lake, Katchewanooka Lake, Stony Lake, Clear Lake, Balsam Lake, Balsam Lake, and surrounding water bodies.

## Pest Pressure in the Kawarthas

The Kawarthas span from the Canadian Shield transition zones in the north to agricultural lowlands in the south, with the Trent-Severn Waterway and its chain of lakes as the defining ecological feature. Pest pressure is high and variable across this geography.

**Trent-Severn lake system:** The connected lake chain of the Kawarthas creates extensive waterfront cottage property territory. Dock spiders are present at virtually every waterfront structure on Pigeon Lake, Chemong, Katchewanooka, Stony Lake, Clear Lake, and Balsam Lake. Mosquito pressure from lake bays, wetland edges, and marsh areas adjacent to cottages is high through June and July.

**Lindsay and City of Kawartha Lakes:** Lindsay is the urban centre for the vast rural City of Kawartha Lakes (formerly Victoria County). Agricultural land surrounding Lindsay drives higher insect and spider pressure than urban areas. Rural properties throughout the municipality — from Coboconk in the north to Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon — have higher mosquito and tick pressure than the urban core.

**Stony Lake and Clear Lake:** Northern Kawartha lakes in Peterborough County with Canadian Shield character — granite outcrops, mixed forest, and significant dock spider and mosquito pressure. Tick activity is present in this zone.

**Tick presence in the Kawarthas:** Blacklegged ticks are established across the Kawarthas, particularly in the transition zone between farmland and shield forest. Peterborough Public Health and Haliburton-Kawartha-Pine Ridge District Health Unit both monitor tick populations. Tick treatment is relevant throughout the Kawarthas, particularly for properties adjacent to wooded areas, conservation lands, or with wildlife trail activity.

## Stony Lake and Cottage Country Specifics

Stony Lake is a high-profile Kawartha destination with a long-established cottage community. The Canadian Shield geography — granite islands, mixed forest shorelines, wetland bays — creates high dock spider density and significant mosquito pressure through June-July. ## Seasonal Service Schedule

**Fall (September–October):** Second tick application (adult tick peak). Optional spider treatment before seasonal closing.
