# Spider Control Hamilton — Spider Squad ## Service Area Spider Squad serves the City of Hamilton and surrounding areas, including Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek, Flamborough, Binbrook, Waterdown, Glanbrook, Mount Hope, Caledonia (shared with Haldimand), and surrounding communities. ## Spider Pressure in Hamilton Hamilton's geography creates distinct pest pressure zones. The city sits at the west end of Lake Ontario, with the Niagara Escarpment forming the landmark barrier between lower Hamilton (the "lower city") and the mountain communities above. **Lower city:** Older housing stock, mature urban tree canopy, and proximity to the Hamilton Harbour and Red Hill Creek ravine system. Cellar spider and house spider accumulation is high in older basements with block or stone foundation construction. Orb weavers are prominent in established garden areas. **Mountain communities (Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Glanbrook, Binbrook):** Newer residential development adjacent to agricultural land and the Escarpment edge. High wolf spider pressure during ground disturbance phases of subdivision development. Rural properties have higher mosquito pressure from adjacent ditches, retention ponds, and drainage features. **Flamborough and Waterdown:** Rural-edge and estate properties. Escarpment proximity drives higher tick pressure — blacklegged ticks are well-established in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area corridor and adjacent properties. Spider Squad tick treatment is recommended for Flamborough and Waterdown properties with wooded or brushy zones. **Dundas and Ancaster ravine properties:** Many properties border the Dundas Valley or Cootes Paradise — conservation-adjacent environments that support sustained outdoor spider and mosquito populations. Perimeter treatment is most important for properties with direct natural-area adjacency. ## Seasonal Notes Hamilton's lake moderation means slightly earlier spring activity than inland Ontario and slightly later fall season than northern Niagara. Peak spider activity: June through October, with major fall runs in September. Tick pressure: The Dundas Valley / Flamborough area has established blacklegged tick populations confirmed by public health monitoring. Stoney Creek and Glanbrook also have documented tick presence in natural areas. ## Services Available in Hamilton - Exterior spider perimeter treatment - Mosquito treatment (particularly effective for mountain suburban properties with moisture features) - Tick treatment (Flamborough, Waterdown, Dundas Valley adjacent, Ancaster escarpment) - Interior spot treatment (basements — particularly lower city heritage homes) - Web cleanout - Commercial and multi-unit properties ## Cities and Areas Served Hamilton (all wards), Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek, Flamborough, Waterdown, Binbrook, Glanbrook, Mount Hope, Jerseyville, Millgrove, Rockton, and surrounding areas.
