Spider Control in St. Thomas
St. Thomas is Elgin County's largest city, with a significant inventory of pre-1960 housing in the older central neighbourhoods. These homes — predominantly brick construction with full basements, window wells, and aged mortar — provide the foundation characteristics that support persistent house spider and cellar spider populations in mechanical rooms and laundry areas.
The city's location in the interior of Elgin County means it is surrounded by agricultural land on all sides, with a pronounced fall migration window when field crops are harvested. Newer residential developments on the outskirts of St. Thomas backing onto farm lots experience the highest fall intrusion rates. The Kettle Creek valley, running north-south through the city, also attracts orb weavers and other web-building species to riparian vegetation adjacent to residential backyards.
